Couture OOAK handmade heart ORISSA (India) Tibetan necklace by Susan Ray.
The statement necklace contains a weathered bronze heart medallion from the Phuntsokling Tibetan refugee settlement est. in 1963 and located at the eastern part of India in the state of Orissa.
The hand carved 1/2" barrel beads in graduated hues of greens, browns and amber are also hand polished. There are tiny bronze square beads accented by even tinier round, bronze crimps.
The labradorite rounds glisten with hues of blue green in the sunlight. There are 3 Tibetan bells suspended from Sari ribbons along with more Labradorite rounds suspended on bronze colored waxed cording. It ends with a sterling silver clasp that has been patina'd to match the medallion.
The heart medallion is 3 1/2" x 2 1/4". The medallion is suspended by a wire frame that wraps a Tibetan prayer roll and then is attached by jumprings to the beaded necklace.
The total pendant length with the wire frame is 4 3/4" . The necklace measures approximately 14.5" on each side with a closed toggle clasp (without the medallion and frame).
This is definitely a historic STATEMENT necklace with the size and weight to prove it.
I hope you will love it for a lifetime!

"My love of beads began more than 17 years ago. I am fascinated by the human story beads tell, the nature of the beads, the hands that created and traded them.
This has led me from my early discovery of the vast history available and the opportunity to learn the skills required to create beautiful jewelry myself. I later opened the first bead store in Galena, Illinois and taught more than 20,000 women (and a few men) to bead.
As my knowledge grew I wanted to share it further and wrote five books about beading for the craft industry and have been published many times in numerous national magazines.
Along the way I have made many dear and talented friends and have been fortunate to be inspired by many leading designers.
